Reality Apologetics: Ohio

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1). The first words of the Bible tell the story of how the world began. According to Christianity, God made all things. According to atheism, nothing made all things. How can we know which tells us the true story?

Let’s consider two questions. First, have things always existed? We know from our understanding of the laws of physics that the answer is no. Second, what caused the universe to begin to exist? Our options are something or nothing. But we know things don’t pop into existence without a cause. The universe is no exception. Then what can we understand about the “something” that caused the universe to exist? We know it must have been extremely powerful and smart, timeless, immaterial, and personal. These characteristics are consistent with the God of the Bible. That’s because the Bible fits with what we know to be true from reality. At this season’s Reality Student Apologetics Conference, "It Is Written," we want to show students how the Bible lines up with reality.
